Two artists. Two visions of animals’ spirituality, energy, and mystery

(Y@H) Quyon’s Katharine Fletcher and Chelsea’s Heather Lamorie believe every animal possesses a spirit which they honour and enjoy interpreting. They perceive how the spirit world lingers in the physical and ethereal realms, where they love creating vivid impressions of animals’ physical power and commanding spiritual presence.

Fletcher has loved and been drawing horses in particular since she was four –  and has been riding since seven years’ old. To this avid horsewoman, horses are her animal totem, representing freedom, individuality, power, and grace –  “Oh and yes, perhaps a certain willfulness,” she admits.

At their art show Animal Spirits, at the artists’ co-operative La Fab Arts Centre in Chelsea (July 27-August 20) you’ll find Fletcher’s multicoloured Spirit Horses galloping over her canvases, ceramics, and collograph prints amid fantastical swirling landscapes. Meanwhile, Lamorie’s bears, fish and other creatures command attention, too.

Both artists especially welcome you to their vernissage on Thursday, July 27, 5 p.. to 7 p.m. It will be a fun happening: not only are La Fab’s Gallery and Boutique open, the Chelsea Farmers’ Market operates on La Fab’s grounds from 5 – 7. So come, have a glass of wine, chat with the artists, check out the boutique –  and buy a farm fresh meal from local producers.
